Hello!
We are Isis and Kurt. Welcome to the website of our home, Villa Visvanger.
The story of Villa Visvanger is the fulfillment of our African dream, a journey that began in 2013 with our visit to the Okavango Delta in Botswana and the Cape Region of South Africa. From that moment, Africa became an integral part of our lives, enchanting us with its rich culture, breathtaking landscapes, warm-hearted people, and unique way of life.
Our travels have taken us to extraordinary places that have been difficult to leave behind, including Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda, the Masai Mara in Kenya, and the Serengeti in Tanzania. Each destination strengthened our connection to this remarkable continent. Ultimately, we found our home in the Lowveld region near Kruger National Park in Hoedspruit, South Africa.
In 2023, we embraced a unique opportunity to purchase a plot of land on the banks of the Zandspruit River. This marked the beginning of our journey to design and create Villa Visvanger, our African home. It is a place that reflects our love and respect for the South African way of life, its natural beauty, and its incredible people.
Villa Visvanger
“Visvanger” meaning “Kingfisher” in Afrikaans, represents the colorful and graceful bird known for its stunning plumage and swift, agile movements. These remarkable birds are commonly found along rivers with clay or sandy banks, where they engage in their characteristic activities of resting, flying, hunting, and diving.
At Villa Visvanger, you can unwind with a sundowner on the river deck, where you might catch a glimpse of these glorious creatures in their natural habitat. Just as the Visvanger calls this quiet riverbank home, we have also embraced it as our African home base.
